Advicates for Total Curriculum Overhaul for Industry and Goal-Driven Research in Nigeria

The Association of Management and Social Sciences Researchers of Nigeria (AMSSRN), under the leadership of National President Professor Uche Lucy Onyekwelu, PhD , FAMSSRN has announced its upcoming 4th International Conference scheduled for Owerri from the 3rd to 4th of September, 2025.

The body had also advocated strongly advocates for a comprehensive curriculum overhaul in Nigeria’s education system. Speaking the university dob noted the urgent need for a revised curriculum that aligns with industry needs, fosters innovation and entrepreneurship as well as promote goal-driven research.

The body advocates
urges policymakers, educators, and industry stakeholders to prioritize a curriculum overhaul that would develop Industry-Relevant Curricula by engaging industry experts to inform curriculum development and ensure relevance.

AMSSRN noted that such move would foster Academia & Industry Partnerships: Encourages partnerships between academia and industry to facilitate knowledge transfer, mentorship, and access to resources.

Promotes Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Incorporates innovation and entrepreneurship training into the curriculum to empower students.
AMSSRN president regrets that the current disconnect between academia and industry has resulted in a significant gap between what is being taught in tertiary institutions and what the industry needs.

This gap she notes is largely due to the lack of goal-driven research, which has hindered the development of relevant skills and knowledge in graduates.
In her words curriculum overhaul will help to bridge the Gap by aligning academic programs with industry needs which will inturn ensure that the teeming graduates being chunned out are equipped with relevant skills and knowledge.
She noted that the curriculum overhaul will help scale up the skills of graduates and therefore enhance employability.

She noted that students are supposed to be equip students with industry-relevant skills to enhance employability and productivity.

This move will sure drive Innovation and productivity by fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, empowering students to develop solutions to real-world problems.

By advancing Goal-Driven Researches : Enable researchers to focus on goal-driven research addressing pressing national and global challenges.
